Volunteering
Do you have a New Year’s Resolution to get active, make new friends or play an important role within your local community? The Settlement is looking for more volunteers in 2009 to join our ever expanding team of dedicated volunteers assisting with our garden, arts projects, clubs and events. If you could spare some time each month, or would like to help with individual events then please send us your details.

After working voluntarily for The Settlement, doing practical, hands on assistance, I wanted to find out how a voluntary scheme operated, so I could be more actively involved. During my week of work experience I was able to perform a variety of task, both diverse and engaging. I was provided the opportunity to design the publicity for an upcoming event and evaluate previous workshops I had participated in. I also learnt about another side of community art workshops – the hard work and preparation as I learnt how to undertake risk assessments, parental consent and stock take, allowing for the smooth operation of the scheme. I enjoyed my time there, developing new skills and continue to offer my assistance with future events.
